Attack
On the evening of
November 13th, a series of terrorist attacks including
mass shootings, hostage taking and suicide bombing occurred in a
northern suburb region of Paris, France. Isis, who claimed to be the
perpetrators of the attacks, targeted a stadium, a concert hall and a café.
Now, when thinking of
a massive terrorist attack, you first look back on 9/11 and think they would
target the Eiffel tower, an iconic building in France. That way, it would
strike fear into the hearts of civilians the same way hitting the twin towers
did. However, the way Isis coordinated these attacks was
to prove that they are a force not to reckon with. They showed the world that they have power over not only civilians of
Paris, but the people of the world. This attack was so random; it makes it
hard to predict when and where their next attack will take place, therefore
making countries around the world question their own safety and their well
being.
What makes this attack
that more daunting is those men who killed those people were trained. People who had a strong hate towards the civilians of France; it didn’t matter
how old you are or what gender you are, they mercilessly shot and killed whoever they saw
fit, and whoever got in their way.
Hundreds were killed,
thousands were impacted and millions around the world asked themselves: Who's next?
Rachel, everything you have explained here I completely agree with. You wrote in such an informing way for the reader, but also added your own personal views to the subject which i really like. You kept it short and simple and straight to the point which worked really well in captivating the reader. Everything you mentioned about the fear that ISIS has implemented on the rest of the world and the state of terror that our world is in is one of the main and most prominent issues and i like how you emphasized that.
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree. You make some interesting points, Rachel. As we discussed in class, the very idea of "soft" (random and disparate) versus "hard" targets (the Eiffel Tower, WTC, etc.) is an important one in understanding the nature of terrorism - of terror - and our response to it. In this context, it's important for us to be realistic about the risks we face - or do not - and proceed accordingly.
